Asthma

Patients who have asthma will be offered an annual asthma review with the nurse or doctor. Asthma symptoms, medication review and inhaler technique will be discussed as well as advice on any problems or complications patients may have.

Baby and pre-school clinics

  • St George's Surgery Wednesday 2pm - 4.30pm

    (by appointment only)

This clinic is for immunisations, medicals and developmental assessments, and is run by the health visitors and a doctor. The practice nurses carry out immunisations.

Cervical Smears

Women due for cervical smears are contacted by the surgery and invited to make an appointment either with the doctor or the practice nurse. This can be undertaken during a Well Person Check. Smears are offered to women over 25 years of age every 3 years, and every 5 years over the age of 50 years, until 65 years.

Child Health Surveillance

Developmental assessments are offered by appointment to pre-school children.

For pre-school children. An appointment is sent for children to attend Wednesday afternoons at the surgery. For a full description of what disease are currently vaccinated against and the vaccinations.

Coronary Heart Disease

chdAs part of the government's recent framework to reduce deaths and complications from heart disease, we have set up clinics for patients suffering from Coronary Heart Disease e.g. Angina/Heart Attacks. This offers an opportunity to address important areas such as smoking, cholesterol, diet etc. We will be contacting patient's who fulfil these criteria over the year.

Diabetic Clinic

diabetes12This is by appointment on Tuesday mornings and afternoons and run by our specialist nurses. Problems will be referred to either Pat Kelland, Dr Brand or Dr Srivastava.

You are entitled to a free flu vaccination if you fall into any of the following categories:

  • You are 65 years of age or over
  • Your are currently pregnant
  • You have:

Diabetes

Asthma

COPD

Heart Disease

Renal Disease

Liver Disease

  • You have had a stroke
  • You are immune compromised
  • You are a carer of someone with the above

Children who qualify for the Flu vaccination will be called to separate clinics.

Hormone Replacement (HRT)/Family Planning

Patient's already on HRT or prescribed contraception are generally reviewed every 6 months. You can see the nurse or your doctor to discuss any problems, or for further information. Patients considering a coil should discuss with the nurse or GP about having one fitted either here or at the family planning clinic. Nurse run HRT clinics are held on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons

Maternity Care

pregnant1This is provided by all the practice doctors, along with our midwife Angela Evans who holds a clinic at the surgery on Tuesday afternoons. Please contact reception to make an appointment. Postnatal examinations should be carried out six weeks after the birth, appointments to be made during normal surgery hours.

Minor Surgery

There is a minor surgery clinic held at the surgery on Friday mornings, where certain surgical procedures can be carried out. These will be arranged by the doctor.

Parent craft

This is offered to mothers and fathers expecting their first baby and is arranged by the health visitors and midwife.

Postnatal Support Group

This service is offered to new parents by arrangement with the health visitors.

Smoking Cessation Clinic

Patients wishing to stop smoking should make an appointment with our practice nurse. Advice and support can be provided, and if necessary a prescription for Nicotine replacement, or an alternative.
