Confidentiality for Children and Young People

Where it is considered appropriate by parents, or where an adolescent does not wish the presence of an adult, a child may give the legal consent to their own treatment. Under these circumstances, the clinician must be satisfied that the child has a full understanding of the advice and treatment being provided.

At 13 years of age the surgery will disable parent’s/guardian’s access to the child’s online SystmOne account unless further consent is given. This is now standard practice for GP surgeries and in line with national guidance on consent and confidentiality.

From June 2019 we disabled automatic text reminders from the numbers held on the surgery database, as these are likely to be parental mobile telephone numbers. These numbers will be retained but removed from the child’s personal contact details unless the young person gives further consent, or provides their own number.

Please contact reception if you have any queries.
