Most years St George’s Surgery has a doctor who is in their final training to become a GP. These are fully qualified doctors who have gained experience in hospital medicine, but are now gaining general practice experience.
They are an integral part of our team and will be seeing patients in the surgery and at home. Doctors Chapple, Borras, and Wing are our GP trainers and oversees their training. Part of the Registrars’ training and assessment requires the use of video evidence of their consultation skills.
On occasions we will request that consultations with the Registrar be video recorded.
This will only be done with your explicit written consent, obtained at the time of the consultation.
Physical examinations will not be recorded and the camera will be switched off on request. At the end of the consultation, further consent will be requested, and if you are unhappy in any way, the recording will be erased.
Recordings will only be viewed by the Registrar, their trainers and perhaps an external examiner. The tapes are eventually erased. Doctors who are interested in our scheme can find out more information from the excellent website of our local V.T.S.
We train either GPST doctors – these are qualified doctors who are training to become GPs. In addition we train “F2” doctors – These doctors have been qualified for a minimum of one year, but not all will go on to become general practitioners. All doctors now are required to have experienced three months of general practice before receiving specialist training in their chosen careers.
We would be happy to chat and answer any GP Registrar related questions if you are interested in joining our practice for your registrar attachment.
